The seaside town of Hermanus is situated along the Walker Bay coastline, only 75 minutes from Cape Town. The mountain range adds to the incredible beauty of the area, with Hermanus positioned between mountain and sea. Visitors are able to either relax or explore the town and its activities, restaurants and markets.


    Guests of Olive Tree can take advantage of the good weather and soak up the sun around the swimming pool on the sun loungers or see what the surrounding of Glenfruin has to offer. The fireplace and wine from the area make winter a cosy experience.


    Hermanus is a popular whale-watching destination with both boat- and land-based whale watching. Get up close and personal on any of the 5 whale watching boats departing from the new harbour, or take a walk on Cliff Path which extends from the new harbour to Grotto Beach.


    The famous Hemel en Aarde Wine Valley comprises 15 wineries, all producing quality wine on a small production scale. The starting point of the Hemel en Aarde Wine Valley is Hermanuspietersfontein and Whalehave wineries, literally a stroll away from Olive Tree.


    Hermanus has many beaches along its Walker Bay shore, from Onrus Beach (closest to Olive Tree) which has changing rooms and showers and hosts the annual surfing competition in December, to Grotto Beach which is the longest sandy beach with a Blue Flag status, and Voelklip Beach which is the popular surfing spot.


    Apart from the ‘must do’ Cliff Path stretching along the Walker Bay shore, Hermanus is known for its incredible nature walks and hikes. Fernkloof Nature Reserve is a mecca of well-maintained trails through the mountains and fynbos that surround Hernamus. The trails equal about 50 km in total. Hoy’s Koppie is home to a cave that sheltered the habitants the area centuries ago.


    The Hermanus Country market, located next to the Hermanus Cricket Ground, is open every Saturday morning and offers a variety of organic produce, herbs, pickles, jams, deli-treats and home-grown goods, as well as several stalls for wines, furnishing and trinkets.
    The Food and Wine Market is also open each Saturday no matter the weather at Hermanuspietersfontien Wine Cellar.


    The Hemel en Aarde Valley has four mountain biking trails of various difficulties. Daily permits are available for members and non-members as well as annual permits. The trails offer stunning views and the tracks go through the vineyards and along the river.


    Hermanus Golf Course is a beautiful and challenging 27-hole golf course in off the Main Road in Hermanus. Arabella Country Estate is an 18-hole golf estate situated just off the R43 when headed towards Kleinmond. The golf course is the 4th best in South Africa and forms part of the African Pride brand.
